The Fremont Firefighters mourn the loss of one of their own brothers in the tragic accident that took the life of

of us.
Tom served proudly as a Fire Explorer in our department from 2003 to 2007. Tom’s
passion, commitment, and loyalty to the fire service made him an exemplary

Incident Details:
The U.S. Forest Service reports that Tom fell approximately 200 feet to his death
while training to rappel out of a helicopter on Tuesday July 21, 2009.
The accident happened at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday at a helibase in
the town of Willow Creek. Marovich was performing a required
biweekly drill that happened to occur during his crew’s assignment to the 6,300 acre
Backbone Fire in Humboldt County.
The drill tests proficiency in descending by rope from a helicopter, but Marovich "fell from a significant distance,"
said fire spokeswoman Robin Cole. For more information please read this article published by Firehouse.com
